Ibrahim Abdel Meguid

Ibrahim Abdel Meguid is an award-winning Egyptian novelist and author. He was born in Alexandria in 1946 and studied philosophy at Alexandria University. He obtained his BA in 1973 and moved to Cairo the following year. He published his first novel around the same time. Among his best known works are Birds of Amber, No One Sleeps in Alexandria and The Other Place. These have been translated into English and French. Abdel Meguid won the inaugural Naguib Mahfouz Medal for The Other Place.

 

 

Humphery T.Davies

is a translator of Arabic fiction, historical and classical texts. Born in Britain and based in Cairo, he has translated at least 18 Arabic works into the English language  and is a two-time winner of the Banipal Prize.

 

 

 

Mehmet Demirtas

is the general director of ITEF-Istanbul Tanpinar Literature Festival. His main education consists of music composition for which he acquired his degree in music theory. The composer's musical activities are ongoing although with intervals. After his graduation in France, Demirtas returned to Turkey for a masters degree in Art Management and worked as the events coordinator in Yapı Kredi Culture, Arts and Publishing where he organised events in activities in various branches of art for two years. In 2006, Demirtas set up Kalem Literary Agency and in 2009 started organising ITEF. In 2011 after establishing Kalem Culture Association together with the festival team, he is currently managing various EU projects as well as other international partnerships along with ITEF.

 

 

 

Marielle Morin

Marielle Morin has translated contemporary Indian literature from English and Bengali into French. She was also the head of the Book and Library Office of the French Institute both in India (2006-2010) and Egypt (2010-2014), where she has worked on promoting exchanges between authors, translators and publishers. She is now back in Paris, at the National Centre for Scientific Research where she works as a research librarian.

 

 

 

Michael March

was born in 1946 in New York—a time when the cold war swung low over blue alligator sewers—and the gods retained life in their own keeping. He is the author of five collections of poetry: Goya, When she danced, Disappearance, Only a Promise, and The Way Back. “Without poetry—there would be chaos. Dogs bark at strangers—but these are the loved roads.” Michael March lives in Prague.

 

 

Hamdy el-Gazzar

Hamdy el-Gazzar was born in 1970 in Giza and graduated in philosophy  from Cairo University. His first novel, Black Magic (AUC Press 2007),  received the 2006 Sawiris Foundation Prize in Egyptian Literature.

His other workes are 'Private Pleasures".'four lines book" and " Al Hareem".

 

 

Abdelrehim Youssef

Abdelrehim Youssef (1975) an Egyptian poet and translator. He lives and works in Alexandria as a teacher of English and a cultural coordinator in Gudran Association for Art and Development. He has published four books of poetry and two translated books.
